Autumn is one of the best times to enjoy nature with our dogs.
In this season, everything around us begins to change and, after the sweltering heat of summer, a cooler climate finally arrives, which above all means more time outdoors.
It was while taking my dogs for a run in the countryside that I thought a more practical and natural solution would be needed to clean their paws… And also the marks of their crazy romps between the river and the mud-softened fields!
So-called ‘muddy paws’ are a constant presence for those who experience nature with their dogs. Whether in the countryside, hills, or mountains, autumn is also the wettest season!
I didn’t just want a product that would help me clean the dog’s paws and coat, but also one that would hydrate without upsetting the natural pH of the skin and paw pads.
In fact, we often talk about cleaning thinking only and exclusively of the action of removing dirt, but what is also important is to hydrate along with cleaning.
I am really very happy to have created this product because it brings many benefits to our dogs’ cleaning routine. In fact, it doesn’t make the coat greasy or dry out the fur; it has a complete soothing action and, after a short while, the paws will be softer precisely because they are nourished.
The hydrating action for our dogs is very important and should never be underestimated, especially during the autumn/winter period when the temperature change in the house and the harsher climate outside can dry out the skin more easily.
The paw, body, and coat mousse has been formulated with botanical ingredients that specifically showcase the powers of this product; let’s look at them together in detail below:
• Organic aloe vera leaf juice – Aloe barbadensis Leaf Juice – is a natural gel extracted from Aloe vera leaves; it has a soothing, calming, and healing action on irritated skin and combats dandruff by purifying impurities.
• The surfactant derived from coconut oil – Cocamidopropyl Betaine – was developed as a gentler alternative to traditional surfactants. It has the ability to produce a smooth and stable foam, while at the same time having a gentle action on the skin and coat. It is able to remove impurities without stripping the skin and hair of their natural protective oils, making it a perfect ingredient for cleansing without drying. Fun fact: it has antistatic properties (it reduces coat static in long-haired dogs).
• Organic sunflower seed oil – Helianthus annuus seed oil – is commonly used in cosmetics as an emollient and skin moisturizer. It is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamin E, and antioxidants that make it a nourishing and protective ingredient. The emollient properties of the linoleic acid present in sunflower seed oil help keep the hair hydrated and detangled.
• Organic chamomile flower extract – Chamomilla recutita flower extract – comes from one of the oldest medicinal plants, known above all for its calming properties. Its extract is used in cosmetics intended for sensitive and delicate skin or skin prone to allergies.
• Organic grape extract – Vitis Vinifera fruit extract – has numerous beneficial properties: it is a good anti-dandruff, antimicrobial, and antioxidant. Furthermore, its nutrients hydrate the skin and offer protective properties against the environment and pollution.
• Pomegranate extract – Punica Granatum fruit extract – is obtained from pomegranate seeds and is famous for its soothing, anti-inflammatory, and regenerating properties useful for treating irritated and sensitive skin. The regenerating action of pomegranate, besides being used for the skin, can help in the treatment of dry fur.
• Organic green tea extract – Camelia sinensis leaf extract – is used for its skin-purifying and cleansing properties.
• Wheat proteins – Hydrolyzed wheat protein – are derived from wheat. They have a soothing, calming, and anti-reddening function and are suitable for all skin types, particularly sensitive ones. They are used as an additive for improving coat quality. They form a protective film on the hair, providing support to the hair fiber, adding volume, protecting, and strengthening it.
• Inulin is used for its ability to bind water, thus maintaining skin hydration. Furthermore, thanks to its emollient nature, it gives softness and silkiness to the coat.
• Bisabolol is a precious active substance extracted from chamomile essential oil. It is primarily responsible for the characteristics of chamomile itself, specifically its soothing and anti-reddening action. It possesses excellent skin tolerance and is effective as a soothing agent in products for inflamed, reddened skin, skin affected by atopic and seborrheic dermatitis, and for irritations in general.
• Benzyl alcohol is naturally present in some plants, fruits, teas, and wines. Numerous efficacy studies have confirmed the broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity of this preservative even at low concentrations.
And after this information, which I am sure will be useful to all those who wish to inform themselves in depth, I will also answer some of the most common questions.
How is the mousse applied?
Ideally, it is advisable to apply the product to a soft cotton cloth or a glove: then simply massage in circular motions on the desired areas to remove dirt (whether it be the dog’s paws, body, or coat). The dog will then be cleaned and hydrated at the same time!
Does the mousse need to be rinsed off?
No, the mousse does not need any rinsing or cleansing. It is ideal for daily use (several times a day), for every type of coat, and also for all those dogs that don’t particularly like water.
Does the mousse make the coat sticky?
No, it shouldn’t weigh down the appearance of the coat—on the contrary! If the coat feels weighed down after the first application, it simply means you need to reduce the amount and use a cloth to apply the product first, then correctly dose the application and its use.
My dog has dermatitis or another condition, can I still use the mousse?
The mousse does not contain any aggressive ingredients or agents; for the dog’s well-being, I always recommend asking your trusted veterinarian or dermatologist.
Why are there two versions of the mousse?
The original mousse contains lavender essential oil to provide a gentle and at the same time calming scent.
The unscented mousse, which came later, was created to cater to those much more delicate dogs that do not like any smell—even if natural—so this version is identical in every way but does not contain lavender essential oil.
Last but not least: bye bye wipes!
Saying goodbye to wipes and switching to a more sustainable product like the mousse could be an excellent resolution.
Consider that on average a dog goes out 3 times a day, which means at least 3 wipes a day (if you’re lucky). Multiply that by 365 days: that would be more than 1,000 wipes per year for each dog.
